I would think so. But quite like this? Nope. Because we're living in unprecedented conditions of a type of capitalism coupled with the choking death of modern social/liberal democracy, that is new. It is variously called surveillance capitalism, technofeudalism, technofascism etc. Thus we are seeing new social phenomena spring up, in large part due to the way the internet has burrowed deep into every facet of our lives.
