It's ludicrous! You can't get into the corners with the straw n then you can't pick it up and actually drink it in the normal cup-drinking method. I'm actually fairly fed up with what some coffee shops call mugs too. If you want a mug of coffee then it means you want a tall china/ceramic mug – not just a flatter wider bowl that makes me barely warm coffee become immediately tepid (ugh!), with a handle that won't support its weight let alone fit your fingers into. And as for giving me a takeaway container with which to sit at my table, if I'd wanted one of those to takeaway my coffee I'd have asked for one. I know exactly what you mean re this style of coffee shop – so well described. I seek out quiet, or large n open cafes, that aren't crammed with shouting people n screaming/squealing kids for my coffee – or I give it a miss and go home and make my own n listen the birds n my own music choice quietly. Coffee needs to be savoured, n you can't do that when there's no peace, audible n visual, around you.
