I couldn't agree more! It's change for the sake of change regardless of how it affects the users. At least with WordPress we are given – for the moment – the choice to take it on. Unlike the banking industry who have just updated their sites for Online Banking – almost compulsory these days – to match Windows 8 format, when it's previous site was really user-friendly and in some ways beyond the capabilities of the elder clients. The new site is a pain in the arse! They are so busy 'cleaning up the screen' that you have to go through quite a few more steps just to get to something that even looks like it might be the right page. None of the steps are simple and straightforward. I don't know what people who were already having problems with online banking are now doing with this. And the pensioners are a huge demographic that should be considered and not dismissed!
This updating for the sake of it – tampering with things that work really well just to be trendy and "stay current" is bollocks.
I had just paid and bill and transferred some funds – accompanied by increasing blood pressure and bad language – discovered that I am now paying a Foreign currency exchange fee on every BigFish Games purchase I make (fruzzle-ruzzle), when I opened wordpress and read your impressive Post.
Hence my mini-rant. :&
