I spoke about Instagram with a girl who studies 'social media', and her most liked picture was the words "Stop taking pictures of food" written on the inside of a Mars bar wrapper. Subversive.

The Internet (and particularly FB and Twitter) could always use a chill pill or three! If you got all your news from social media, you'd think the human race simply lurched from crisis to scandal and back again. 🙂

A friend of mine posted an Instagram picture of Nutella on toast today completely without irony. I thought of you.

A fair worry — though if that's all you're using Instagram for, be sure to check out the other services I mentioned above. Instagram is by no means the only app to do the whole "retro filter" thing — it just happened to be the one which captured the public imagination the most for some reason.

I find Facebook very useful for keeping in contact with overseas family and old friends e.t.c…. if FB would just stick to that and stop eating cool apps and turning them into new procrastination features of facebook.

(Plus there's that whole creepy CIA thing.)

I, too, have seen a lot of negativity around this (mostly on Twitter, so I too can't say how widespread it is). As you have eloquently noted, I don't yet see the reason for any kind of sadness or anger, but then again maybe I don't have as high a stake on this as everyone who takes retro pictures of their food everyday in my current Android/iPhone-less state. Nevertheless, the internet could definitely use a chill pill or three.
