I have a similar thing, but it stems more from the fact that I can work with someone for a year and not know their name. Especially awkward when it comes to bosses…

However! Mainly this article makes me suspicious of the not-shortened name of Pete…. Patronus? Perhaps he is a super hero? Pethelon, Defender of the Scarlot City. Is it PEte OChULx or some such crazy elder-god name that shall wake terrors from the sleeping depths?! DARE WE SPECULATE?!

Dude. I have the same ailment. I've mostly cured it by just forcing it. Start with nicknames, then move to sing-song versions of their real names, then the intermediate step of using their full, proper name.
