Right. I had a suspicion that might end up being the case as soon as I saw the presentation at Eurogamer last year where they said there was a "plot" that "wasn't intrusive" and was "optional".

Why hasn't anyone done this right? I know why; because people don't believe it'll sell. And maybe it won't. But I'd certainly buy it.

If I knew anything about making games and had a team of people with an unlimited budget at my disposal, I'd make the damn thing myself!

It's awful though and I'd rather it wasn't there at all. 🙁

SimCopter was pretty much the best helicopter game I ever played.

I'm pretty sure I still have my boxed copy somewhere 😀

Good suggestions, though I'm talking about more traditional racing gameplay rather than open-world objective-based driving.

Always wanted to play SoSC. I loved SimCopter.

Streets of SimCity. I'm sure there are others. Both of these—while not closely similar to the structure of Wing Commander or Strike Commander—framed their driving missions within a story that progressed as you completed missions. The latter actually had several campaigns with different stories: "good cop fighting against the corrupt system" and "grandmother repelling alien invasion" were the two I remember.

*travel from London to Birmingham*

Random Encounter: DRAG RACE!

Arrive in Birmingham and people will only sell you extra petrol if you can beat their most hated rival in a rally. Of course the 'evil' enemy has a better offer that can be obtained by simply crashing out of the race….

Hmmm maybe a little more work is need :p
